Derived from the Greek noun ἴουλος (ioulos) meaning "down" (the first growth of the whiskers and beard) as well as "corn sheaf".For the latter meaning, compare Ioulo, which was an epithet of the Greek goddess Demeter 1.In Greek and Roman mythology, Ioulos (Iulus in Latin) was an alternative name of Ascanius, the legendary king of Alba Longa.
