Basically means "related to corn sheaves", derived from the Greek noun ἴουλος (ioulos) meaning "down" (the first growth of the whiskers and beard) as well as "corn sheaf" (see Ioulos).In Greek mythology, this was one of the many epithets of Demeter 1, the goddess of agriculture and the harvest.
