Meaning & History

From Japanese 大 (hiro) meaning "big, large, great", 碩 (hiro) meaning "large, eminent, great" or 博 (hiro) meaning "command, esteem" and 也 (ya) meaning "to be, also, too" or 哉 (ya), an exclamation. Other kanji combinations are also possible.

A famous bearer is Hiroya Shimamoto (1993-), a Japanese Nippon Professional Baseball pitcher for the Hanshin Tigers in Japan's Central League.
