Means "trembling, fear" in Hebrew, ultimately derived from חתת (hatat) meaning "to deplete of courage".Heth was, according to Genesis 10:15, a son of Canaan, and by extension a great-grandson of Noah. Heth is the ancestor of the Hittites, from whom the latter derived their name. Despite being descendants of Canaan, in Genesis 23, the children of Heth held a high view of Abraham, and referred to him as both "lord" and "mighty prince".
