Meaning & History
Derived from the Ancient Greek adjective ἁρμόδιος (harmodios) meaning "well-fitting, accordant, agreeable", literally "fitting together", a derivative of the verb ἁρμόζω (harmozo) meaning "to fit together, to join; to set in order, to regulate, to govern". This name was borne by Harmodios or Harmodius, one of the assassins of the tyrant Hipparchus of Athens, the brother of Hippias, in the year 514 BC.
