I had never seen this name before just a few minutes ago on a character from a show, but I was immediately enchanted! What a strong, unique sounding name! It sounds boyish yet smooth. I think I would like it very well on a boy but I think it sparkles on a girl—adorable on a little girl, elegant on an older woman. I also agree with one of the other comments, that it’s a really great gender neutral option as well, fresher than other choices like Morgan or Alex :DI think of a cool art student at a college who makes incredibly odd yet deeply thought provoking art, or an aging matriarch of a family who’s just the strongest and most brilliant woman you’ve ever met—these images come to mind when I think of Greer.
I love names. Some names aren't my taste but I don't hate on them; it's rare when I fully hate on a name.Means a lot to say that I cannot stand Greer. Forget stupid petty rhymes, just say the thing out loud. Greer. The sound alone is extremely unpleasant. It sounds like an old smoker's hacking wheeze, or an angry growl-hiss from an ancient feral cat, or the metal-on-metal sound of a car collision, or the screech of chalk dragged roughly across a chalkboard, or a chunk of chicken bone stuck in a garbage disposal. I could go on. It's unpleasant to even look at, and it does look like a typo of Green — Green would probably make for a better name, actually. It's awful for a boy, it's downright tragic for a girl, I don't even like it as a surname. I wouldn't recommend this name to my narcissistic father's worst enemy's pet dirt-clump.Let it go extinct. There are literally millions if not billions of decent names on this planet to give to your kid or yourself! Let Greer die.
Commenter below, you are right. This doesn't even sound like a name, it has no likable sounds and you can barely say it because of the two r's. Every time I try to say "Greer" I just say Greerererr because it is so sharp sounding and weird. And don't even get me started on how it was originally a surname that became a feminine name. There are so many other names out there, just name your daughter a feminine name, not a surname. And, it looks like a typo of Green, so if someone said their name was Greer online, I would think their name was Green and they accidentally wrote Greer.

Greer sounds like an onomatopoeia (word that represents a sound) for some kind of machine.
Honestly, I really like this name. It's a good gender-neutral name for nonbinary people or genderfluid people or really just anyone considering a cute and kinda modern name for their baby. I may be kinda biased since I chose this as my gender-neutral name, but still. Even if it does rhyme with some unfortunate things, it is still a really good and unique and modern name. But again. This is just my opinion so you don't have to listen to it.
My beautiful sister was named Greer after the gorgeous and amazingly talented Greer Garson. I love the name and so does my sister. She never received anything but compliments concerning her name. There was never any immature taunting as described in some of the comments listed on this site, even when we were children in public school. I feel sorry for people whose minds go directly to how they can be insulting to someone else. They must be terribly mean spirited and unhappy people.

My four year old cousin's name is Greer Evans and she's honestly the cutest thing ever. I think the name has a great ring to it and isn't too common at all. I would recommend the name!
Greer: Queer. Rear. Beer. I pray this name never makes its way onto the charts. It's fugly, harsh and easy bully fodder. The fact that it's so close to the derogatory expression of "Queer" makes me twinge uneasily every time one uses this name.

My daughter is having twin girls this summer and they have decided on Sarah Greer as one of the names. I think it is a classy, smart and cheerful sounding name.
Greer is my first name. In general I really love my name. I love how it is unique and how I am not known in school by the first letter of my last name. When my mom named me Greer she says she named me it because it reminds of a woman who can do anything. My dad's name is also Gregory (Greer is the female form to Gregory). Although I really like my name it does stink that whenever I say my name I have to repeat it. Example Conversation:"Hi my name is Sarah." "Hi, I'm Greer." "Greer?" "Yes, Greer" "Oh, that's a cool name, I like it."Whereas most people have a conversation like this:"Hi my name is Sarah." "Hi, I'm Michelle." "Nice to meet You." ...Another negative to the name is that it rhymes with some negative phrases... Beer Queer RearOverall I love my name, it is something that makes me me.

Greer Barnes is a comedian who has been featured on Comedy Central Presents.
I used to live in Greer, so when I found out it was an actual name, it seemed... weird to me. If I met a person named Greer all I would think about is that place.
I always thought of this as a surname but when I saw it in a baby name book I thought it okay until I learned it was considered feminine, People! Greer is about the least feminine sounding syllable one could possibly think of! Absolutely pathetic I say!
This name has grown on me recently. It's short, but not boring--and I prefer it on females. However, I wonder if it would perhaps work better as a middle name.

It makes me think of Greer Childers from that 80's workout show, "Body Flex".
Germaine Greer (born 29 January 1939 is a famous Australian born Feminist Author. She is also an accomplished academic, journalist and scholar of early modern English literature. Germaine Greer is widely regarded as one of the most significant feminist voices of the later 20th century. She wrote the controversial "Female Eunuch" in 1970 which caused a great deal of controversy at the time.
Brooke Shields' youngest daughter is named Grier Hammond Henchy. I always preferred the "Greer" spelling because of Greer Garson, and the football player/actor from the 1970's, Roosevelt "Rosey" Grier.
I love this name, and definitely want to use it at least as a middle name if I ever have a daughter. Greer is a name somebody can grow up with. It suits a friendly, young girl, as well as a grown woman. It's a shame I've never had the opportunity to meet someone with this name. Greer is a name to be proud of, whether you're the bearer or the parent of a bearer.
The only Greer I know is a guy and he is called Queer Greer.

I'm not sure about this name, it is nice yet not. I guess it sounds like Ria, which is really pretty. I know a girl named Greer and I seriously thought it was Ria.
Whoa, it's odd that you mentioned Kelsey Grammer's daughter. I went to elementary school with Greer and, although we're in different high schools, still talk with her a lot. So, I guess I know a somewhat important bearer of the name. :) By the way, her surname is spelled with an e: Grammer.
Greer is a tight name and anyone named Greer is all right in my book. There is hope to find others; just this year there is someone on my tennis with the first name Greer. It's confusing. I'm glad Greer is such a unique name.
