This name can be used as 豪 (gou, era.i) meaning "overpowering, powerful, superior," 剛 (gou) meaning "strong, sturdy, brave," 強 (kyou, gou, kowa.i, shi.iru, tsuyo.i, tsuyo.maru, tsuyo.meru) meaning "strong," 昂 (kou, gou, a.garu, taka.i, taka.buru) meaning "rise" or 郷 (kyou, gou, sato) meaning "countryside."

Bearers of this name include actor, Gō Ayano (綾野 剛) (1982-), Gō Morita (森田 剛) (1979-) who is a tarento, actor and singer & actor and entertainer, Gō Katō (加藤 剛) (1938-).

There are two instances where Gō is used on a female.
The first is used for Gō (江 - kou, e). She was also known as Oeyo (お江与) and she was the daughter of Sengoku Period (1467-1603) daimyō Nagamasa Asai and Oichi, the sister of powerful daimyō Nobunaga Oda (or Oda Nobunaga if surname is used first). The kanji for Gō means "bay, inlet."
The second is used for manga artist Gō Ikeyamada (池山田 剛).

Other than that, this name is used almost exclusively for boys.
