This is my name and yeah, I did have some kids call me "evil line" but it was all in good humor and never to degrade me. I am named after my great grandmother and we pronounce it like Evelyn. I used to have a lot of trouble with teachers not knowing how to pronounce my name so I ended up being called every possible form of Eveline under the sun until I finally corrected people. All in all I love my name for its meaning and the fact that it is very unique.
My daughter's name is Audrey Eveline. We pronounce it Ev-uh-LINE. "Ev" like the word "ever" and "line" like 'stand in line'. We absolutely loved the name. Originally it was going to be Evaline but she was born on Christmas Eve so we had to change it to Eveline to honor her special birthday. I constantly have to tell people that it's not pronounced "Evelyn" but I don't care. We adore her name and that is how we've chosen to pronounce it. I've heard that it's meaning is everything from light, to little bird, to wished for or longed for child. She is all those things so any of those meanings is fine with me.
In France, Eveline (pronounced EH-ve-leen) was a very popular name in the 1940's and 50's. It is now extremely uncommon among baby girls born today, which is unfortunate. It's a gorgeous and elegant name.
