Meaning & History
Probably a medieval French variant or possibly a misspelling of Eglantine. In Arthurian legend, Eglatine was the daughter of King Machen of the Lost Island, and the half-sister of King Nentres of Garlot. She married King Brandegorre of Estrangorre and his son, Sir Dodinel, one of Arthur’s knights, was raised as her son.
