Meaning & History
Anglicized form of Domhanghart. This name is best known for being the name of saint Domangard of Maghera, an Irish saint from the late 5th century who was (and still is) also known under the name Donard (see Donard). He lived and died on a mountain that is part of the Mourne Mountains (which are located in what is nowadays county Down in Northern Ireland), which has resulted in said mountain eventually becoming named after him: it is now known as Sliabh Dónairt in Irish (and by its anglicization Slieve Donard in English), which translates to "mountain of Donard" in English.
