Meaning & History
The first element of this name is derived from the Epic Greek adjective δήϊος (deios) meaning "hostile, destructive" as well as "unhappy, wretched". It is related to the Greek verb δηϊόω (deioo) meaning "to slay, to cut down" (see Deianeira). The second element of this name is derived from the Greek noun λόχος (lochos) meaning "ambush", a word that later came to signify a tactical sub unit of the ancient Greek army. The word is ultimately derived from the Greek verb λοχάω (lochao) meaning "to lie in wait for, to waylay" as well as "to snare".
