Never knew Darrius is a variant of Darius. This name means "maintains possessions well". This is awesome to know! Interesting to learn that there are so many Darius' in the Bible! ;-)
Most likely among my top 5 favorite boy names ever. It has a beautiful meaning, its spelling awesome, the way it's pronounced goes raw. After all, that's a 10 name. If you are interested in naming your baby Darius, don't hesitate.
In South Africa in the 1980s there was a rugby player called Darius Botha; he is Afrikaans, and his more famous brother, Ignatius Botha, known as Naas, seems to suggest that the parents liked -us names. Darius is pronounced DAH ree uhs, where uh is a schwa.
This name is all Hootie to me, which makes me dislike it. It's too bad, because I think I would have liked the name if Hootie had never gotten famous. Maybe someday I'll meet a man named Darius who will make me like it. I hope so.

I really like this name. I'm using it for the evil character in a book I'm writing, as personally (and no offense to those who have the name) I think it portrays a hint of evil and darkness.
I love this name, I'm thinking of calling one of my future sons this, I also love the nickname Dari (Kind of like Harry, but which an D, not an H) I'll give him two middle names that he can go by in case he doesn't like it.

Steponas Darius (1896-1933) was Lithuanian-American pilot who crossed Atlantic Ocean in 1933. Form Darius (Dah-ryus) is more popular in Lithuania than Darijus because many of people are named after transatlantic pilot, the national hero of country. Also there is the word "daryti" (in English - to do) in Lithuanian language. [noted -ed]
In our country Lithuania, more popular DARIUS name and Darijus is betveen rare names. Darius - from the ancient Persian name Dârayavahus: dâraya [= manage] and Váhu [= wealth, goods]. The name later adapted the Greeks and the Romans, and it became easier (Darius). Less credible hypothesis that the name comes from the Lithuanian word Darus [= active].
Darius III of Persia, famously known for his part in the battle of Issus 333B. C against Alexander the Great. Can be seen depicted on a mosaic in the house of the Faun in Pompeii.
In the novel series "House of Night" one of the characters has this name. He's a strong and powerful warrior. The only one who isn't under the influence of the school's headmistress. He's following Zoey Blackbird. This is a very nice character. He's a real man, macho and all those things, but he has also some soft spots in his character. The name by the way is really liked by me. In my opinion, this name was a good choice for this warrior. Can't say why, but sometimes you can feel that a name is just perfect for a character.
It is a Persian name coming from "Dariush" who was a great Persian king that invaded Greece. Your information is wrong, it was not Dariush who was defeated at Marathon but his son Xerxes, please change that! Also, this name has Persian origins and got into Europe by Romans who later translated Persian Wars into Latin.
The only Darius that comes to mind is Darius Danesh, who was turned away from Pop Idol, to return again the following year (with less hair) and became a hit! (For a while anyway)
I think the name "Darus" is probably related to Darius. Of course the only place I've heard the name was my maternal grandfather, Darus Ames Guy, and one of my cousins.
