From the Horse-handlers known as ‘Conogons’, a corrupted form of "Konja-goni" - ‘Horse-handling’ in plain Macedonian. From "Konj" - 'Horse' and "Goni" - 'chase, urge'.Also adopted as a personal name ‘Conogon’: St. Conogon, bishop in Brittany, France, also called Gwen or Albinus. He was the successor of St. Corentin in the see of Tuimper.
