I don't think 尋 stands for seek, searching in this case.尋ねる means ask or inquire but is pronounced as "tazuneru" not "hiro"."hiro" for 尋 means "arm span". Japanese fishers often use hiro as unit of line length and depth.So Chihiro means thousand times of arm span depth. Very similar to "abyss", deliberation. [noted -ed]
I feel that Chihiro is quite a neutral name, since Chihiro Fujisaki from Danganronpa was a boy cross-dressing as a girl, and no one suspected him of being a boy because of his name. However, Chihiro's name was probably given to him from birth. This is just my speculation.

Chihiro Ayasato is a character in the Ace Attorney video game and anime series. She is a very wise, mature, intelligent woman who often assists the protagonist when he gets into a sticky situation. In English versions of the game, she is known as Mia Fey.
Cool meaning, pretty name! Chihiro from Spirited Away is one of my favorite characters.

Chihiro is a common name for girls in Japan.It first entered the Japanese top 10 in 1990 and remained in the top 10 until 1992. It peaked at #4 in 1990.It is currently (as of 2018) the #64th most popular girls name in Japan.In Japan it peaked long before 'Spirited Away' was released.It is usually spelled as 千尋 (thousand + search/seek).
