I really love this name! It has a smooth, strong sound that you can’t get with a longer name. Also, it’s definitely feminine, but honestly I could see this as unisex, it doesn’t feel too girly for a boy either.
Bree Walker (born Patricia Lynn Nelson) is an American radio talk show host, actress, and disability rights activist. She gained fame as the first on-air American television network news anchor with ectrodactyly. Walker worked as a news anchor and reporter in San Diego, New York City, and Los Angeles.
My (real) name is Breathe, and almost everyone I meet confuses it with “Bree” or even “Breath” sometimes, haha. But that's okay, I love my name, and I'm so grateful my Mama chose it for me. It's one of my favorite things about myself :)
Bree Larson is Captain Marvel in Marvel's 2019 movie "Captain Marvel," she is also Captain O.P. Bad Haircut in Marvel's 2019 "Avenger's Endgame."

This could be a nice diminutive of Gabriela/Gabriella!

I love this name! It’s beautiful and elegant and I love it for a girl and definitely not for a boy, just so you know. It sounds too feminine.

I prefer the Brie spelling. The cheese association doesn't bother me!

The name Bree was given to 220 girls born in the US in 2015.
My name is Breonna, but I have always gone by just Bre. One E. I love my name, it is youthful. It's short and spunky. Just like me! I'm not often asked if "Bre" is short for anything however. I do get the "you're a cheese" comment on occasion.
Before Bree Timmins, my impression of the name was that it chosen by wannabe lazy hippy parents, who read "The Lord of the Rings" up until the point the hobbits reached the town of Bree, on the edge of the Shire. They then went, "Geeze, this book is really LONG! I'm just going to skip through it now but tell everyone that I read the whole thing".They then chose the name Bree for their daughter to demonstrate how very up with Tolkien they are.Either that, or they called their daughter after the cheese, but changed the spelling because they were worried it would be pronounced BRY.Either way, my impression was that it was a name chosen by idiots.
Bree Amer (b 1982) is an Australian TV personality who first became known on "Big Brother 2004". She had treatment for thyroid cancer after a doctor noticed a lump on her throat when he was watching her on TV, and wrote to her to suggest she seek medical advice about it.
Bree Timmins was a teenage character on Australian TV soap. She started out as an overweight sullen geek from a lower-class family, but morphed into an overweight grouchy emo. Because of the show, I always think of this as a name for a fat bogan chick.
I think this is a very pretty name! I don't like the names Gabreiella or Brianna and I don't think "Oh, Bree must be short for something!" It can stand on its own. I know a girl named Bree and have always liked the name.
My name is Bree and weirdly enough I am homeschooled! And a bit of a dork too. I get compliments on my name and am rarely asked if it is short for something. I've always loved being named Bree.
Bree is the main character in the webseries lonelygirl15, a homeschooled self-admitted dork. The webseries originally was posted as her video blog, so it shocked many viewers that the friendly, amusing Bree was actually a fictional character.
My friend has this name but it is spelt Breigh, closer to the original Irish spelling. There was also a girl in our high school who used Bre as a nickname for Breanne.
In Chronicles of Narnia, specifically in The Horse and His Boy, there is a Talking Horse named Bree. A boy named Shasta rides him to Archenland. The name is short for Bree-hinny-whinny-hoohy-ha, a typical Talking Horse name. It is my belief, however, that C. S. Lewis got the name from Tolkien (or the other way around) because they were friends and contemporaries.
My friend's name is Bree and it is not short for anything. She said in preschool, her preschool teacher called her Brianna and she did not answer because she did not know she was talking to her! The teacher called her parents and said that she would not answer her name, Brianna, and her parents said her name is Bree, just Bree. The lady had never heard of that as a plain first name.

I love this, but only as a nickname. My name is Brianna, but people call me Bri, which I pronounce the same way.
Bree is a town in Eriador in The Lord of the Rings.

I like Bree, but only as a nickname, like for Gabriella or something.

It sounds like short for Briana. I didn't know that this was a name all by itself. I think that if you had this name, people would always be wondering if it was short for something.
