Meaning & History
There are many etymologies possible for this Frisian name. One is that it is a pet form of Germanic given names that contained the element bodo meaning "lord, ruler" or baug meaning "bow". Another is that it was derived from Proto-Germanic bojo meaning "boy". One source even mentioned that it could possibly be derived from Boii (known in German as Boier and Bojer), which was the latinized name of a Gallic tribe from ancient times.
