Bernardo O'Higgins Riquelme was a famous Chilean military commander that fought under Simón Bolívar's orders (he also did fighting on its own, mind you, and he and others assembled the Chilean National Congress, which pledged for an independent Chile). For all intents and purposes he almost single-handedly (along with soldiers, of course) liberated the Northern part of Chile (look a map, Chile is quite long and difficult terrain). He was also sort of the first Chilean dictator and is a beloved national hero of Chile.
