Meaning & History
Ancient Sicilian but now being used as a first name again; was taken from Sicily by Jews somewhere around 500 years ago (or longer), and became a Jewish sir-name (e.g., Arnon Avron the mathematician). It is, again, originally Sicilian which means "He holds" or "He who holds". A good friend who was an exchange student from Sicily gave me this name in the 70's...I thought it was just "Brian" in Italian or Sicilian, but found out later what it means., which I found on the Internet some years ago. It wasn't easy to find...Avron Prosini
