Meaning & History
Probably from Nahuatl atlatl, "spear-thrower", and -huah, a possessive suffix, meaning "lord of the spear-thrower" or "possessor of the spear-thrower". The first element may alternately be from atl, "water; ninth day-sign of the tonalpohualli". This was the name of an Aztec god, allegedly a water god, fisherman, and archer.
