Meaning & History

He was called “the Pilgrim” because of his passion for going on pilgrimage, "for every third year he would be at Jerusalem" He passed his nickname on to his daughter, Alice le Beale Pilgrim. Ansirus was of Lancelot’s kin, apparently in the British branch of the family. His daughter and her knight, Alisander le Orphelin, settled in “their country of Benoye,” which presumably was Ansirus’ dukedom.
