This name is very common in my country, Indonesia. I love how it is used worldwide.
Anita Magsaysay-Ho (1914 – 2012) was a Filipina painter who specialized in Social Realism and post-Cubism in regard to women in Filipino culture. Magsaysay-Ho's work appeals to Modernism by utilizing more abstract designs and styles rather than realistic approaches. She was the only female member of the "Thirteen Moderns," a standing group of Filipino modernist artists, and in 1958 was chosen by a panel of experts as one of the six major painters of the country's history. The most famous work of Magsaysay-Ho are subject to the beauty of Filipino women dealing with everyday issues. Collections of her artwork can be found in museums around the Philippines.
This one always reminds me of Anita Radcliffe, Roger's pretty wife from 101 Dalmatians. It's beautiful when the "t" is pronounced as a "t", which is not what Americans do. Away from America, it's a sweet sounding name, and maybe it can be chosen out of piety, since it's a diminutive of Anne/ Anna.

I think it sounds cute, unusual, intellectual, nerdy, and wholesome. Anyone saying stupid things in this comment section is just an idiot. I bet they're called something extremely dull.

Meanings of the name Anita; 'Gracious', 'Merciful', 'God is Gracious', 'Kind'. A variation of the older name 'Anne.'
Pronounced correctly it should sound like 'Aneeta'. But a lot of people leave off the first vowel; the letter 'A' and just say 'Neeta' which is fine but it's a mispronunciation. The worst thing is how Americans ridicule the name saying 'I need a...' To those people, I would say, 'Learn to read.'
Too bad so many people find the name horrible or have had bad experiences with it. I think Anita seems to me a much prettier version than the simple and boring Anne. Anita is pretty, it even seems a little adorable to me. I think people should give it a try. There is also the option of Anika, although I prefer Anita.

Anita is a nice name. It's a shame that it dropped off the list.

Love the "-ita" suffix at the end. Makes it sound especially nice to my ears.

Anita to me only works as a diminutive of Ana, as it seems kind of silly. Not too bad though, but I really dislike Anita Sarkeesian and it makes me think of a liberal extremist. No offense to other Anitas, I’m sure you’re not like her.
I don't like the idea that a bigoted anti gay conservative activist has the name, but this name would be fine without her, actually I may like it.

The only issue I ever had was people's pronunciation. In my case, it is ah-NEE-tah, crisp and clear! And NOT ahh-need-ugh... like something is stuck in the throat! I realize not everyone uses the same pronunciation! I am named after a great aunt, but the family is French Acadian, and I have always wondered how the name came to the family! I am Anita :) 51 years old and I have never heard one "I need a..." joke, and Anita Bryant is such old news that nobody seems to know the name anymore, so using it now seems perfect.

Sadly, Anita Bryant did a number on this name. The sound of the name is nice enough, but it will take a long time for it not to be associated with bigotry and hatred.

My name's Anita. I was born in the early 90's and have never met any one else with my name. However, I've never met anyone unfamiliar with it. And despite what other people say about those 'I need a' puns, I've never had anyone tease me. It gels nicely with my Italian surname. My only complaint is, on occasions, when someone in my proximity has said 'I need to (insert action here)', I have turned around thinking they were saying my name. I also once had an Indian man ask me why my name was Anita. He didn't know it was European name as well as an Indian one. I really appreciate my name now that I'm older. It's unique. And despite it being not in common use, it's still very pretty. I think it needs a comeback.
I really don't like this name. It's worn out, sets itself up for a bunch of "I need a" puns, and worst of all, it reminds me of one of those bratty police cadet sisters from El Tigre...
This is my name, and I can definitely say I have heard the "I need a" pun many, many times. However, as I've gotten older I've come to appreciate it. As an adult I've had many people tell me that it's a beautiful and unique name. Don't worry about teasing too much if you're considering this name, because children will find a way to make fun of any name if they try hard enough.
Americans, do your daughter a favor and do not name her this, as the name will inevitably lead to bad puns, especially with the wrong type of surname. In other countries, the name works quite differently, as it doesn't sound like ''I need a''.
I don't agree that Anita Bryant has ruined this name. Yeah, she's a bigot and not very concerned with hiding it, but her star has fallen and been fallen for many years. She's not much in the news anymore, I cannot recall the last time I heard her name in the press. I think Anita is a very pretty and lively name. My problem with it is it just cries out for a moronic pun to be made out of it: Anita Mann, Anita Hooker, Anita Beer, Anita Beaton, you name it.
