Meaning & History
Feminine form of Androdamas, which means "man fighter" or "subduer of men", from Greek ἀνδρός (andros) "of a man" and δαμάζω (damazo) "to tame". In Greek mythology, this was the name of an Amazon who fought in the Attic War. Another Androdameia was a queen of the Thermodontine (Black Sea) Amazons, who defeated one of the leading Greek generals in single combat during the Third Doric Raid.
