Meaning & History
Derived from the Greek adjective ἀκαταμάχητος (akatamachetos) meaning "unconquerable", which consists of the Greek negative prefix ἀ (a) and the Greek verb καταμάχομαι (katamachomai) meaning "to conquer, to subdue by fighting".Since medieval times (as early as the 11th century), Akatamachetos is also used as an epithet for the Virgin Mary.
