Meaning & History
Derived from the Greek adjective ἀγλαόκαρπος (aglaokarpos) meaning "bearing beautiful fruit", which consists of the Greek adjective ἀγλαός (aglaos) meaning "splendid, shining, bright" (see Aglaos) combined with the Greek noun καρπός (karpos) meaning "fruit" (see Carpus).This was an epithet of Demeter, the Greek goddess of the harvest, agriculture, sacred law and the cycle of life and death.
