When the city of Keenor was destroyed not all of its residents were killed. The messengers who went to warn the rest of the Southlands survived the initial attack, although a few of them died later in the war. There were the few soldiers who were neither killed nor taken prisoner. And a small but not insignificant number of civilians made it out of the city, including the young noblewoman Sorna Greenbriar. The highest ranking person to escape Keenor, Sorna became a closely guarded secret in Duru, the city the she and most of the other survivors moved to, and a symbol of hope elsewhere. She and Efren are hoping to someday be able to rebuild Keenor.
Enola's first pregnancy and birth went much smoother than her mother's, with no complications at all. Her son Vieri has replaced Efren as her heir.
