Indie
Lately I have been loving the name Indie for a girl. Do you think it could stand on its own or would it have to be a nn? For the record, I know an India "Indi", an Indiana "Indi" and a girl that's just Indy. Of all the long forms, I prefer India. WDYT?

Round here an "Indie" is someone who tried too hard to be unique and thus somehow conforms to one of the social cliques, in fact they have become a well known social clique in their own right. That said. I do think it is very cute. I dislike India immensely but I think Indiana.

I love it as a nickname for India or Indiana but I've noticed most people on here can't stand Indiana on a girl. As a person who's not from America (So doesn't have the state association) or has ever seen Indiana Jones I love it. India is beautiful too.

I like the nn purely as an Indiana Jones fan, but I can't stand behind it as a name in reality. Also, Indie reminds me of hipsters, not a great association for me.

I don't like it on it's own, as I feel it will sound a little "young" for an adult. India "Indi" is alright, but I'd prefer Indigo "Indi".

I've considered Indira, nn Indy / Indie. I love it. It makes an adorable nn (and only a nn). I don't believe it has enough substance on its own. It works great for India.

I know a girl who is just Indi. Her parents wanted her to have a name that couldn't be shortened. It works really well for her. I don't think it neeeeds to have a longer name to fall back on.Indira could be an option maybe?

Indie is a definite nn. By itself it reminds me too much of indie music and people saying "Oh, I only watch indie movies and listen to indie music because mainstream anything is indigestible." I love Indiana for a girl. I like India, too, but there's something about it holding me back. I love Indigo, too.

Indigo!I think Indie is cute and spunky, but it feels like a nn to me. How about Indigo?

I really like the name India and I think Indie/Indy is cute too but somehow I never thought of Indy as a nn for India! lol. They're both GP names for me though. India is a GP because I have no connection to India and I think naming kids after countries is kind of dumb anyway. Indie could stand on its own, but I'd rather see it as a nn. It's kind a of a fun and funky name...not one that I can take incredibly seriously. I don't know what it could be a nn for though because even Indiana is a GP of mine, due to the state in the US.

I don't think Indie stands on its own, and I don't think it even makes a nice nickname. India wins, hands down.
