Re: names and nicknames
in reply to a message by Katie
I think it's so fun how nicknames for your family members evolve. My favorite from your list is Lulubelle. It's totally cutesy, and I can see how your mother (I'm guessing) derived it from your middle name.My name is Shannon, so not much you can do with that. My mom calls me Shanny sometimes, which I've never been a huge fan of. I have some friends online who "call" me Shan, which I don't mind.My son's name is Benjamin (he's almost 3), and for the most part he's called Ben. But at some point awhile ago for a few months he always called himself Benji, and so that stuck for a bit. Some family members still mostly call him Benji. There was also a point when he was a baby that I ended up calling him BenBen a lot, but that seems too babyish for him now. He was also called Turnip before he was born and on occasion for the first year or so afterwards.Like I said, it's neat how nicknames come up. This is why I don't place too much emphasis and figuring out which nn I'd like to use if we ever have a daughter, who we plan to name Margaret. I figure something will just click.

I recently heard the name Benno which I think is a great nickname for Benjamin. We have a dog named Benny and I've started to call him Benno now. I also call him Benjamin (because sometimes it's just nicer to have a longer name) Benjamino (ben-JA-mino, not ben-ja-MINO), BenBen and Benny Boo.

Benno is kind of cute. I'm not really one for the -o nicknames, not sure why. And hey, someone else who came up with BenBen. :)
