It *does* have a few components that would make it feminine to modern ears (the -lan sound at the end being so similar to -lynn in particular). I don't see it as "ruggedly" masculine myself, just masculine. Like a shy, bespectacled boy who wins people over in a geeky sort of way.

I guess because I imagine it said with a brouge. The "lan" part sounds more like "lun' than like "lin".
If I was thinking of it in the waythat "most people" would say it, I can really see the difference. And I especially see the "lyn" thing.
I have the same feeling about Laughlin as I do for this name and they are using that on girls now :-(
