Edward proposed to
Lavinia four months into their courtship. However, as his father finally succumbed to his illness, the wedding was delayed until
Lavinia turned 21. Foremost,
Edward had to wait till he was out of mourning - his bride would have abandoned him at the altar had he appeared in a somber suit, without a gay boutonniere. Furthermore, the Pembroke hotel chain had to get back on its feet after its owner's death. His heir proved more than up to his new station.
Lavinia and
Edward's mother took almost a year to organise the wedding.
Lavinia's father pulled a few strings, and the reception was held at St
Paul's Cathedral. What followed was a lengthy and elaborate celebration at the Pembroke's largest location, in
London.
After the wedding, the couple took residence in
Edward's Belgravia house.
Edward wished to relegate his mother to a small cottage he owned in Yorkshire, but
Lavinia, who had grown attached to her mother while organising their wedding protested vehemently. Instead, she now lives in the attic.
To keep herself from idleness,
Lavinia asked her husband for permission to open a charity to aid
London's many orphans.
Edward agreed with some enthusiasm, correctly predicting his wife's endeavour would bring publicity to the company.
Lavinia immensely enjoys cutting ribbons and giving speeches while wearing
Cristóbal Balenciaga dresses, which she did until the late months of her pregnancy.
Edward and
Lavinia were delighted to welcome their first son, the spitting image of his father.
