Re: Say/Think/Suggest
I'm expecting a boy. We've chosen the name Judah Rayner, nn Jude.
You say: That's such a handsome name!
You think: Yay, someone who actually knows how to pick good names!
You suggest: Julian is also a nice way to get the nickname Jude. (I'd say that more as a casual comment than as a suggestion, because I like Judah too.)I'm expecting a girl. I think we're going to name her Delaney Corisande, nn Dela.
You say: That's nice.
You think: When did Delaney become a first name?
You suggest: Dela is pretty. It could almost stand on its own. Have you thought about Delia?I'm having a boy. We're really religious, and have no compunction about making our beliefs public, so we're naming our son Amos Obadiah.
You say: That's neat. I love old-fashioned names.
You think: Amos... really rubs me the wrong way. And while I usually like old-fashioned names, I can't see Obadiah on anyone under sixty.
You suggest: My favorite Biblical names are Abel and Jedidiah. *hint hint*I'm having a girl, and I love frilly, girly names. We're thinking of using Felicity Annis.
You say: Felicity Agnes? Oh, Annis. That's nice.
You think: I must have the mentality of a ten-year-old boy. I don't think I could ever bring myself to name my daughter something that even remotely resembles the word "anus," no matter how legitimate it is.
You suggest: I like Agnes.I don't know whether it's a boy or girl, so I'm going with something unisex. The baby's name, regardless of sex, will be Avery Belrose. Belrose is an old family surname.
You say: I like Avery on a boy.
You think: You don't know what sex it is NOW, so you're picking a unisex name? Are you STUPID?
You suggest: Well, you'll know what sex it is in a few months, so why don't you just pick the names then?I'm expecting twin girls. I'm so excited, b/c I love theme-y names. They're going to be Lily Ruth and Iris Mae.
You say: Those are very pretty.
You think: Two flower names is kind of overkill...
You suggest: Don't change a thing. I know someone who named her twins Jasmine and Yasmine, so I can't bring myself to say anything bad about Lily and Iris.I'm expecting twin boys. I love alliterated names for twins, so my boys are going to be Ezra Kyle and Eben Keith.
You say: Those are cool names....
You think: But not TOGETHER!
You suggest: Don't you think having the same initials is kind of overkill? How about Ezra Kyle and Keith Eben? Or Ezra Kyle and Eben James?I'm adopting b/g twins. Since twin names always sound the same, I'm naming the girl Calla Eden and the boy Calvin Pierce.
You say: Those are really nice names.
You think: But once again... not together! "Since twin names always sound the same..." According to who? You're an idiot.
You suggest: What if they both decide they want to be called Cal? (Hey, Calla could be a tomboy.) Calla Eden and Ciaran Pierce would be nice.

Good suggestion *changes combo*I'm personally not terribly fond of Delaney as a fn. It's ok, but it is a bit too surnamey for my taste. Delia Corisande, though, that's a keeper! And I was LOL at your Annis and Avery Belrose comments. ;oD Honestly, I don't get anus out of it, but if you do, I'm sure others do, too. It's supposed to honor my grandmother, Inez, but I don't like Inez (or Agnes, sorry). Annis was the closest I could come. :o) I love your whole "actual thoughts" thing. I'd probably be thinking that the person is an idiot, too, but I rarely post it like that. You crack me up!Are you serious about Jasmine and Yasmine? Are they prn the same? I know a Puerto Rican girl whose name is spelt Yasmine, but it's prn Jasmine...Anyway, thanks so much for playing. I enjoyed reading your responses.“The longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth, that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid?”

I'm dead serious about Jasmine and Yasmine, I'm afraid. Fortunately, they're not pronounced the same, although apparently in some languages they are. Her exact words, I kid you not, were, "We thought it would be cute, because, you know, they're twins!"I'm not sure how many people would get anus out of Annis; I think I just watch too much Family Guy. It is a pretty name, regardless, and I like it better than Inez.I'm glad you liked my comments. :)
