Wives should have last names, too.

I make up my ownI love surnames about as much as I love first/middle names, so including them are important to me. But I know a handful of people who play my games completely exclude surnames all together. So, I've gathered that they're not as interesting to everyone. When they aren't included in a game, I generally use it as an opportunity to pick my own, which is sometimes more fun.

My concern wasn't about whether surnames are included at all, or not. It's fine to leave out surnames. I was just pointing out that in this game, the husbands have surnames and the wives do not.

I disagreeWhen I play a name game, I'm interested in the first and middle names of the characters. The surname of the family may have some bearing on the other names I choose so it's somewhat relevant. But I find choosing the no-longer-used maiden names of wives pointless and tedious in this context. Yes, in real life, wives have maiden names. In name games, I don't think they need them.

I agree that surnames aren't strictly required for a CAF. But this game did include surnames -- only for husbands. I think it's bizarre to assume that a wife's surname would be a "no longer used maiden name." It should be up to the player, not the game creator, whether spouses of any gender keep or change their surnames.

I would have made this CAF the same way as kolkvicija did and never thought that someone would find it noteworthy to mention the wives' surnames. Maybe kolkvicija didn't have time to add extra surnames or maybe they were trying to save the players a bit of time, either way, I think the game creator should be allowed to simplify a game they create.

Obviously it is up to the players since it is only a game, but another way to look at it is to include the maiden names because, as you stated, surnames have a bearing on the names you choose. So, when the hypothetical wife was named, her last name was something different, which may have a bearing on what names you choose for her.

In the 11 years I've been coming on this board, I have never once factored in the wife's maiden name when I've chosen her first and middle names. I have always seen it as a needless part of a game. Maybe that's just me. I enjoy name games, they're a fun hobby, but I do have a real life with real things I need to do so I appreciate when someone simplifies a game to make it faster to play, such as not having surnames at all or not including maiden names.
