Leopold and Alexandra have not managed to conceive a child in the first two years of their marriage, which leads to some rumours around court. However, these quiet down when a large blaze breaks out at Buckingham Palace. Luckily, no one is hurt, but several rooms are almost entirely destroyed.

Her customary short temper and desire for freedom has had her sent away for several weeks to stay with Alexandra's father, a stern (although kind) man with a house in the country, where he teaches Lotta to ride while trying to instill some discipline in her.
Year 8
Both Lotta and Thomas are sent to Alexandra's father this time - their parents see the good it did Lotta, and decide that it couldn't hurt to have Thomas trained in this way as well.
Year 9
Although they try, Leopold and Alexandra have found themselves unable to conceive a child for the past two years. Meanwhile, the country goes to the polls and elects a new prime minister - a new prime minister who seems unable to follow through on any of the promises he made, and is hated by his party and others alike. He soon enough faces a vote of no confidence, and the country is thrust into a second election campaign.
