Royal Year Game
A slightly different take on the royal year game I’ve posted in the past! This one is set in England, around the 19th century, and has a lot more events to make up for the lack of choice in nation!Name your starting couple from the namebanks below, or however you see fit - they can be King and Queen, or Prince and Princess (and hence heirs to the throne). Roll for their appearances with dice from http://www.brockjones.com/dieroller/dice.htm:Hair (d10)
1-4: brown
5-6: black
7-8: blonde
9-10: red/ginger/strawberry blondeEyes (d10)
1-4: brown
5-7: blue
8-9: green/hazel
10: greyEach year, you can choose to roll for a child event, a story event, or both. Optionally, roll d8 for anyone under 8 or over 60: if you roll an 8, that person unfortunately passes away. If a child is unmarried by the time they’re 18 (or whatever age you choose), you can roll d3 - a roll of 3 means they get married and you can roll for their spouse’s looks, and choose a rank and nationality for them. If a spouse dies, their widow/widower can remarry at any time.Child Eventsd12
1-8: a child is conceived
9-12: no child is conceived (roll for a story event instead, if you like)if a child is conceived, d12
1: miscarriage
2-6: girl
7-11: boy
12: multiplesif multiples are conceived, d12
1-8: fraternal twins
9-11: identical twins
12: triplets
(roll d2 for gender, 1 for a boy and 2 for a girl)Hair (d12)
1-5: mother’s hair
6-10: father’s hair
11-12: in between, or randomEyes (d12)
1-5: mother’s eyes
6-10: father’s eyes
11-12: in between, or randomNamebanks are at the bottom of the post!Story Events (d3)
1: kingdom event
2: family event
3: personal eventKingdom events (d10)
1: An important and trusted royal advisor dies, and must be replaced - none of the candidates are ideal.
2: A series of killings by an unknown murderer leaves the entire nation shocked and on edge.
3: Protestors gather, demanding reform to an aspect of Britain’s political system.
4: Tensions are rising between Britain and another nation… (roll d2 - 1 means the situation is resolved diplomatically, 2 means Britain goes to war)
5: The country faces a shortage of food, or some other essential.
6: A new prime minister is elected, but quickly proves to be wildly incompetent and unpopular (can’t imagine that happening in this day and age…)
7: A new service is introduced to the country (for example, new railways)
8: An epidemic sweeps the nation.
9: Religious issues divide many people, and occasionally lead to violence
10: A new scientific theory is proposed.Family events (d10)
1: The family’s main residence changes
2: Some or all of the family take an extended trip to another country
3: A member of the family falls pregnant or gets someone pregnant out of wedlock - the pregnancy can be hidden and the baby given away, the child kept and passed off as a distant relation, or, if the family member is unmarried, a marriage can occur.
4: A royal marriage is proposed - if you choose to accept, your eldest unmarried child is married or engaged to a member of another royal family
5: An argument leaves a deep rift between two members of the family
6: There is an attempt on someone in the family’s life (roll d3- 1 means they survive with no consequences, 2 means they survive but with physical or mental consequences, and 3 means they die)
7: Two members of the family grow closer
8: One of the children causes trouble and is sent away for a period of time
9: The family gets a pet
10: A fire breaks out at a palacePersonal events (d10)
First, go to the “full roll” section of the dice site: enter the number of people in your family, and then hit ‘roll’. Count that number down your family - the person you end up on is the person to whom this event will happen.1: This person falls seriously ill
2: This person falls in love with someone, but for whatever reason the relationship cannot work out (if the person is too young to fall in love, they want to be friends with someone but cannot)
3: This person takes up a new hobby or skill
4: This person joins the army, the church, or a political group
5: This person argues with another member of their family
6: Someone to whom this person is close dies
7: This person makes an enemy
8: This person gets increasingly involved in politics, which naturally isn’t too popular with some people
9: This person makes a visit to somewhere they haven’t been before
10: This person meets a famous scientist, artist, or writerAlbert Alfred Algernon Ambrose Anton Archibald Arthur Aubrey Augustine Augustus Barnaby Basil Benedict Bernard Casper Cecil Cedric Charles Clarence Claude Clement Constantine Cornelius Crispin Cuthbert Cyril Cyrus Dorian Douglas Duncan Edgar Edmund Edward Edwin Emmanuel Ernest Eustace Evander Fabian Felic Felix Ferdinand Florian Francis Frank Franklin Frederick Geoffrey George Gerald Gideon Gregory Harold Harvey Hector Horatio Howard Hubert Hugh Humphrey Ignatius Ivor James Jasper John Jolyon Jonathan Julian Kenneth Laurence Leonard Leopold Linus Lionel Lloyd Louis Lucian Magnus Malcolm Marcus Marmaduke Maximilian Maxwell Miles Montague Montgomery Octavian Oliver Orlando Oscar Otto Owen Percival Peregrine Philip Phineas Quentin Ralph Ranulph Raymond Reginald Reuben Roderick Roger Rufus Rupert Sebastian Septimus Silvester Simeon Stanley Thaddeus Theodore Thomas Timothy Tobias Tristan Valentine Victor Vincent Walter Wilfred William WinstonAda Adela Adelaide Alexandra Alice Allegra Amabel Amelia Annabella Anne Antonia Arabella Augusta Beatrice Blanche Camilla Cecilia Celeste Charlotte Christina Clarissa Clementina Constance Cora Cordelia Cosima Daisy Delia Diana Dorcas Dorothea Dorothy Edith Edith Eleanor Eleanora Elizabeth Eloisa Emmeline Estella Ethel Eudora Eugenie Eva Felicity Flora Florence Frances Freda Frederica Genevieve Georgina Grace Harriet Helena Henrietta Hilda Hilda Honoria Ida Imogen Irena Irene Iris Isabel Isadora Ivy Jenna Josephine Julia Juliet Katherine Lavinia Letitia Lillian Louisa Lucille Lucinda Lucy Lydia Mabel Margaret Maria Martha Mary Matilda Maude Mildred Millicent Minerva Miranda Octavia Olive Olive Ophelia Ottilie Penelope Perdita Philippa Philomena Phoebe Phyllis Portia Priscilla Rosalind Rose Ruby Sabrina Selina Seraphina Sophia Susannah Sylvia Tabitha Tatiana Theodora Theresa Verity Victoria Viola Violet Virginia Wilhelmina WinifredAlbret Arden Arenberg Beauchamp Cavendish Courtenay Drummond Eltz Este FitzJames Godwin Hamilton Ketteler Lyttelton Mowbray Neville Percy Rohan Russell Strathmore Swinton Talbot Tollemache Wittelsbach WoodvilleStill und geborgen, frei ohne Sorgenhttp://www.behindthename.com/pnl/185597

King Theodore Gideon Mowbray (black hair, blue eyes)(28)
Queen Estella Daisy (Cavendish) Mowbray (red hair, blue eyes)(27)King Theodore and Queen Estella were wedded this year in a lavish ceremony attended by nearly the entire country! Theodore has been groomed for the kingship since infancy, ascending to the throne nine months ago when King Leopold was striken with a disease of the mind, losing his memory over the course of several years until he was no longer fit to rule. Estrella is from the royal court--not quite of royal blood, but raised in a royal family. Much to the chagrin of the royal advisors, then-Crown Prince Theodore, fell in love with her! Queen Estella is a fiesty, fiery woman who has her own opinions about nearly everything--but Theodore thinks that will make her a valuable asset to the kingdom.
Year 1:
King Theodore Gideon Mowbray (black hair, blue eyes)(29)
Queen Estella Daisy (Cavendish) Mowbray (red hair, blue eyes)(28)King Theodore has successfully faced the first major hurdle in his rule--early in the spring, large groups of protestors gathered in London and several other large cities to protest the unfair taxes being levied on imported goods. King Theodore took the protesters seriously and set up a meeting with those in charge. Queen Estella was also in attendance at the meeting, and had some good ideas about how to relieve the citizens of some taxes, but maintain revenue flow to cover the cost of importing most items.
Year 2:
King Theodore Gideon Mowbray (black hair, blue eyes)(30)
Queen Estella Daisy (Cavendish) Mowbray (red hair, blue eyes)(29)The entire kingdom rejoiced when Queen Estrella's pregnancy was announced this year--the entire kingdom was later devastated when news of her miscarriage spread through the land. If the King does not produce a male heir, inheritance will fall to his younger brother, Crown Prince Charles (who is not nearly as politically inclined as his brother and is unlikely to be a good ruler).
Year 3:

1-10I'm afraid I kept switching tenses, and obviously, the story is completely historically inaccurate. I enjoyed it an awful lot though, I love your year games! Year 1H [24] King Arthur Barnaby Talbot (black hair, brown eyes)
W [20] Queen Alice Rosalind Talbot (brown hair, hazel eyes)
King William V has been gravely ill for a long time, and wanted to see his eldest son and heir to the throne, King Arthur, married as quick as possible. Therefore, an engagement was arranged between the young prince and Alice Talbot, an opulent Worcestershire duchess, and the couple were hastily married only 3 months later. The joy of the newly-weds was interrupted quickly - the morning after their wedding night, news arrived that King William died of a heart attack.Year 2H [25] King Arthur Barnaby Talbot (black hair, brown eyes)
W [21] Queen Alice Rosalind Talbot (brown hair, hazel eyes)A year has passed since the royal wedding, and the queen still hasn't conceived a child. However, she is enjoying married life greatly, especially joining her husband while hunting. While her new pastime raised a few eyebrows at first, it soon became clear that Queen Alice, despite never having hunted before, is much better at it than her husband - and most of his companions.

Years 1-11Year 0 Leopold Edmund Theodore Courtenay, King of the United Kingdom [26, blonde hair, green eyes]
Alexandra Katherine Susannah Tollemache Courtenay, Queen of the United Kingdom [24, brown hair, blue eyes]Leopold I is the young new king of the United Kingdom - thrust into the role a little unexpectedly after his father's rather premature death at the age of 57, some say he is the fresh blood the nation needs, while others worry he is inexperienced and may make poor choices. His wife, Queen Alexandra, is even younger, and the two have been married for slightly less than a year. The match wasn't exactly one of love, although they get along well enough, and Alexandra seems to be a popular queen.Year 1 Leopold and Alexandra have not managed to conceive a child in the first two years of their marriage, which leads to some rumours around court. However, these quiet down when a large blaze breaks out at Buckingham Palace. Luckily, no one is hurt, but several rooms are almost entirely destroyed.Year 2 Leopold Edmund Theodore Courtenay, King of the United Kingdom [28, blonde hair, green eyes]
Alexandra Katherine Susannah Tollemache Courtenay, Queen of the United Kingdom [26, brown hair, blue eyes]Thomas Leopold William Courtenay, Crown Prince of the United Kingdom [0, brown hair, green eyes]
Charlotte Maria Alexandra Courtenay, Princess of the United Kingdom "Lotta" [0, blonde hair, brown eyes]The nation is thrilled to learn that their beloved Queen is with child. She is sheltered from the public for several months, and in the days leading up to the birth everyone is on tenterhooks, speculating about whether the child will be a boy or a girl and whether mother and child will be healthy. It is a surprise to everyone when Alexandra gives birth to twins, a boy and a girl. Thomas immediately becomes crown prince and heir to the throne - Lotta has to make do with being given an affectionate nickname by her father. Tragically, not long after the twins are born, Alexandra's mother dies, having never got to meet her grandchildren.

Years 12-20Year 12The streets of London are menaced for several months by a killer whose violence is almost unprecedented. Frighteningly, they are never caught, and Katherine is kept up by nightmares for weeks.Year 13The King of Denmark proposes that Lotta is betrothed his 14-year-old son, Christian - however, Alexandra insists that she is too young to be engaged. They agree to keep options open until Lotta is 14 and Christian 17. Lotta begins a correspondance with Christian.Year 14Women's rights activists again stage protests outside Parliament, which this time descend into violence. Queen Alexandra voices her approval for the sentiment, if not the practice, of the protests.Year 15Although Leopold and Alexandra have gotten along very well for 16 or 17 years of marriage now, they were never quite in love. However, when the Danish king and some of his family come to visit, Leopold cannot help but be taken with the king's sister, Christina, whose husband died some 6 years ago. Naturally, the relationship could never be, but Leopold confides his feelings in Alexandra all the same. Year 16A few weeks after the twins turn 14, an explosive argument kicks off between Leopold and Thomas. They refuse to tell anyone what it was about - Thomas won't even confide in Lotta - but the two of them refuse to speak for almost three weeks. Eventually, things cool down, as Thomas finds a new target for his outrage: Lotta, who has now been speaking with Prince Christian of Denmark for 3 years, tells her family that she would indeed be happy to marry him. The engagement is arranged within a few days, and although Thomas isn't happy at the idea of the loss of his sister, everyone else is thrilled. The couple will be married when Charlotte is 18.Charlotte Maria Alexandra Courtenay, Princess of the United Kingdom "Lotta" [14, blonde hair, brown eyes]

21-24Year 21One of Leopold's most trusted advisors, Lord Whittingham, passed away a few months ago. Leopold had known him since he was a child, and while there are several options for his replacement, but Leopold cannot bring himself to choose any of them, and so leaves his post vacant instead.

Christian Frederik Nicolai Fallingborg, Crown Prince of Denmark [22, red hair, brown eyes]Alexander Christian Leopold Fallingborg, Prince of Denmark [0, red hair, brown eyes]There is great excitement over in Denmark as Lotta gives birth to a son, barely a year after she and Christian are married. Their son, Alexander, takes his second middle name from his grandfather. The entire English royal family comes over to Denmark for his christening - the 10-year-old Max and Lionel are particularly interested in their new nephew. Year 22The 15-year-old Theodore has increasingly been causing trouble for his parents, associating with the "wrong crowds" despite his parents' best attempts to stop him. Therefore, they resort to sending him to stay with Alexandra's now elderly father, a trick which worked on the twins and Katherine when they were young.

She gives birth to a healthy girl, Dagny, with the same red hair as her father. This time, only Alexandra and Katherine come to the christening. Much to Lotta's distress, Christian decides that he will serve in the army for several years at least before he must take the throne - although his regiment is unlikely to be put in too much danger, she still worries for his safety.
