King: Henry Philip Arthur James (HRH Henry I of Angleterra) (25)
Queen: Morgana Roslindis Briar Jane (Queen Consort of Angleterra) (18)
-S: Tristan Leopold Arthur Charles (HRH Prince Tristan) (nb)
After the death of his father King Charles, Henry was ready to be king. After a brief period of mourning, the coronation of Henry I brought much happiness, the entire Kingdom of Angleterra was in a celebratory mood. Henry was keen to throw the most self-indulgent banquet money could afford, and made sure to invite all the landed nobility, as well as his loyal army.
Henry, a notorious flirt, took the opportunity of a large feast to be on the lookout for anyone who might ‘tickle his fancy’, so to speak. To his displeasure, he spotted Lady Jane FitzGilbert, and was quickly reminded of the brief and ugly affair he had had with her sister, Lady Margaret. He recalled how he had spurned Jane’s own advances towards him, as he had been determined to marry Margaret, and would not settle for second best. Unfortunately, the affair turned sour as Henry soon discovered that Maragret had lied about being betrothed to another, and he could not, by law, marry her. Lost in his thoughts, it was then that Henry spotted her, exchanging a few heated words with Lady Jane, the most beautiful woman he had ever seen, he was mesmerized, he had to know her name, “Lady Morgana, the daughter of an ailing noble”, answered Henry’s most trusted advisor, Lord Bartholomew, for Henry saw him as a surrogate father. It was love at first sight, their chemistry was electrifying. Too lost in Morgana’s charms to notice anything else, Henry heard a brief murmur about a plot to overthrow him as King, yet being young, reckless and ‘in love’, he did not care at that moment.
Morgana, meanwhile, was determined to woo King Henry by the order of her dying father, who was determined to see his only child happy and wealthy. She had heard Henry was extremely handsome, and he did not disappoint her. She had been invited to the coronation of the new king, and was immediately taken by his tall, dark and handsome stature – the task at hand no longer seemed like a job. Unfortunately, her once good friend Lady Jane was also in attendance, and the two exchanged a few heated words. Morgana highly disapproved of Jane’s husband, Baron George FitzGilbert, who Morgana viewed as a loser, and as Jane was his wife, her reputation, in Morgana’s eyes, had been tainted as well.
Barely a month after his coronation, Henry took Morgana as his wife, and crowned her Queen. Although Henry had only been King for a few months, his reign has brought improved prosperity. Ever arrogant and with a short temper, Henry believed he was God’s gift to humanity, but the Kingdom’s subjects for the most part overlooked this as he was nonetheless young, handsome, smart and, yes – a good King. The Queen Morgana was equally adored for her beauty and good, kind-hearted nature, yet her vanity at times surpassed that of her husband. Unfortunately, not all in the Kingdom shared this adoring view of the monarch’s.
Henry could not escape the rumors about the plot to overthrow him. He had become more paranoid at each passing day, particularly after the birth of his new baby son, Tristan. Henry was suspicious of all, but was determined to keep the rumors from Morgana, it was better that she remained in ignorant bliss.
At first, he was particularly weary of the new Count Ezio Auditore and his wife, Countess Rosa. Not much was known about the two foreigners, and Henry knew something about them was not right, yet no evidence had been found to suggest they had anything to do with it. He also suspected many at court, such as the Jester Renato and his wife, Verena, who just so happened to be a cook in the royal kitchen. Henry had been informed that many of his meals had been poisoned, but was quick to make sure he or his wife would not digest any poisoned food. To investigate all avenues, he had both Renato and Verena imprisoned until their innocence was made certain, but he did not truly believe they were responsible, Renato had been somewhat of a friend to Henry, and nonetheless, he was simply too entertaining to be disposed of. Morgana, oblivious to the plot, demanded her husband release Renato and Verena, for they were loyal subjects who did not deserve this treatment and could not understand why they had been imprisoned. Henry shared Morgana's views, but refused to release them. Another suspect: Lady Jane. Henry knew of her dislike for his Queen, and given their history, it was only natural that he make sure his closest advisors kept an eye on her.
Until the culprits are caught, the Kingdom of Angelterra remains on high alert for both the traitor's and the wrath of Henry – for he has promised that whoever is responsible, will pay dearly for it with their life.
