A few months after their wedding,
Phoebe and
Victoire began to look into the possibility of adoption.
Phoebe especially was interested in the idea; she felt that it was as important to give unwanted children a home as to create new ones. (The fact that she is already an aunt six times over might have something to do with that fact.)
Victoire agreed, and so they began their search.
To adopt a child, it would cost them a good deal of money--money that they weren't sure they had, between mortgage payments on their little home and college debts. It began to look as though they might have to wait and hope and save for several long years before their dreams of a child could come true.
Then, on
Victoire's birthday, her parents revealed that they would be willing to assist
Victoire and
Phoebe in their quest to adopt a child. With their help, the Tremblay-Raines were able to adopt a beautiful little girl from Japan.
Akiko Kokoro Sakura Tremblay-Raines was named
Sakura Tachibana by her birth mother.
Phoebe and
Victoire chose to call her
Akiko, because the meaning "bright child" is akin to the meaning of
Phoebe's name, and
Kokoro because they feel that
Akiko is the child of their heart.
Akiko has dark, spiky hair and not too much of it yet. Her eyes are a beautiful brown, and she loves to smile.
Phoebe and
Victoire are hopelessly in love with their little girl and have sent out birth announcements to all their loved ones. Of
Phoebe's family, only her fifteen year old sister,
Leah, responded with good wishes and a longing to meet little
Kiki, as she has decided to call her. The rest of the family made no reply, except for her eldest sibling,
Mike, who sent a terse note indicating that he did not want to hear from her further. While they were very hurt by his response, they are heartened by
Leah's answer and hope that it is a good sign.
Akiko will be baptized next month at the church the Tremblay-Raines attend.
