Andy's had a very tough time. His dad, Greg, had been diagnosed with bowel cancer 2 years before, and while they had treated it aggressively, they weren't sure if they had caught it early enough. The news now was that it had recurred, and this time it didn't look as though it was treatable.
Greg decided not to try any harsh treatments that would compromise the quality of the time he had left. He had been living in his own home, but with the progression of the cancer he would not have been able to look after himself fully. Andy and Miriam volunteered him Edie's old room (she had just moved in with her boyfriend). He had always been close to his grandkids and his great-grandkids, and agreed to move in. The whole family pulled together to make sure he was comfortable and happy. He lived long enough to see Toby's daughter Iris, and it was hoped that he would live to see Lin's new baby as well. Unfortunately he died before Jem was born, four months after being diagnosed. Lin gave birth the next week, and the new baby was named James Gregory in honour of him.
The Powell (and extended) family are still mourning his loss, especially Andy who was always very close to his father, even when the family were in hiding.
