Hi,
Claire!
But at least you can read Hebrew, and this is something. And how come you know
German? Plus Yiddish? Plus French? Plus Spanish? Now it's me who is jealous!
I have a friend who now lives in the States (he is a professor of Modern Jewish thought and has always been a brighty). Together with him I studied (
Christian) theology and we made Jewish musik for a number of years with a group. We went to
Israel a few times organising student travel groups and working in a kibbutz, which was fun.
Latin I had to study as well plus Greek, and they both help a lot with names even though I'm not very good at either. But just being able to read Greek does help. I can speak French (not very well though), read Italian (with a dictionary) an a bit of Spanish ( with a dictionary and a friend) and that's it. No more bragging!
I love
Chava Alberstein the singer - you must know her. I once heard the Klezmatics near my home town ant it was just gorgeous! I have a nice litte collection of Jewish music but most of it is old stuff.
What is your favourite?
