It is legal to use any name you want as long as there is no "intention to defraud". You can have checks and credit cards issued in your new name and use it in any situation you wish. Since you are reverting to the name you had at birth, simply showing people a copy of your birth certificate should be enough to clear up any objections ignorant clerks might bring up.
