If you are right, this might help on:
In Hebrew the characters R and D look very much alike, so they sometimes get mixed up. This may explain the change from BADAD (meaning "single, lone") to BARAD ("hail").
Still, three consonants are not much to go by. The ending -in makes the name sound a bit like
Saladin, but I should think it's French rather than Arabic.
