I just looked it up on Wikipedia, and you're right. The ú indicates that the letter is pronounced like the "ou" in English "you", while the Icelandic "u" sounds like the German "ü". It doesn't indicate the emphasis. I just associate accent marks automatically with the emphasis. ;)
