Your father is translating the "beth" part of the name as "bayith" -- the Hebrew word for "house". But actually (and as you will find in this site's database), the name originates "from Elisabet, the Greek form of the Hebrew name Elisheba meaning 'God is my oath'."The "Eli" part refers to "God"; the "sheba" part is from the Hebrew word "sheva" or "shevuah", meaning "oath".I'll leave resident Greek and Welsh experts, Pavlos and Merriment respectively, to settle the dispute on "Carys". :)-- Nanaea
