Aixa comes from the days when Spain -- chiefly the kingdom of Granada -- was ruled by the Moors. It is a Moorish/Hispanic form of the Arabic name "Aishah", meaning "alive". It was popular among the Moors because Aishah was the favorite wife of the Prophet Muhammad.

Just checked and there were 24 U.S. girl children named "Aixa" in the year 2000, according to the SSA. There were 27 in 1999.
