Aixa comes from the days when Spain -- chiefly the kingdom of Granada -- was ruled by the Moors. It is a Moorish/Hispanic form of the Arabic name "Aishah", meaning "alive". It was popular among the Moors because Aishah was the favorite wife of the Prophet Muhammad.-- Nanaea
