Since it's a biblical (Hebrew) name like Michael, and not a French one like Michelle, it should logically be a K sound and in English it sounds exactly like Michael, which is probably one reason for its rarity.

As far as I know Michal Does not sound like Michael.
I have a friend named Michal. She pronounces it

the "CH" is raspy like in Chanukah.
