Off topic: Pledge of Allegiance
I read that a federal appeals court in the USA ruled that reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools is an unconstitutional "endorsement of religion" because of the phrase "under God". This inspired the *Anagram Oracle* to produce a universally acceptable version:
*Pledge of Allegiance*
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
=
*Epicede to pall Indigence*
I salute the fair Dollar, of the free capitalist economy,
and the biotic need, which it funds, a big gold ingot, glittering, with a job, fuel, assets, land and revenue for all.

What is so sad is that one man brought all this on. Just because HE is a non-believer. But when a matter goes up to the courts that is REALLY important they don't seem to care to much. But then some doofus wants to deem the pledge unconstitutional and it made its way up the chain of politics.
I think our governments priorities can be a bit mixed up.
** I pledge allegiance to the flag of the united states of america and to the republic for which it stands one nation under GOD, indivisible with liberty and justice for all!!!!! *** God Bless America!

Well, I see no problem with returning to the original Pledge, which did not include the phrase "under God." Yeah, the guy who brought it up is an atheist (is there something wrong with that?) . . . according to him he wants to further separation of church and state. But he isn't the first to point it out.
I think Pavlos's anagram pledge is far superior to any other possibilities, but what about custom pledges? :D Plenty of people don't believe in god, so we could all insert the appropriate beliefs in that place. [And don't take these seriously...]
ATHEIST PLEDGE
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under nonexistant deities, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
AGNOSTIC PLEDGE
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation possibly under something, the existance of we can never prove one way or the other, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
BUDDHIST PLEDGE
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation striving for enlightenment, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
MUSLIM PLEDGE
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation possibly under Allah, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Hm. I think I'll stop now.
Well, in conclusion, whichever position you support in this matter, I hope everyone agrees that the death threats to the guy who brought it up are going overboard.

Been mostly lurking of late. Thank goodness it's summer. :)
Hehe. The Hindu pledge was giving me trouble, I kept drawing a blank and writing "one nation, under cows," which didn't quite seem right.
One nation jammin' under the influence? I would've said one nation under Haile Selassie [had to look that up], but hey, yours fits America better anyway. >.< Or at least my town.
Never go to Utah, Pavlos. ^_^ Hm, forgot the Jedi pledge. "One nation, under the Force . . ." Isn't it an official religion in England? Well, somewhere.

LOL
you forgot the Satanists...
As an atheist myself (and not American), I found the reaction to this matter as I saw it on TV very surprising.

D'oh!
(It didn't actually surprise me, but some reactions on both sides have gotten on my nerves. :\)
But what would Satanism say it's under? ::ponder:: One nation under the qualities of rebelliousness, knowledge, pleasure, and scaring people met online? It doesn't really have a ring to it. And there's too much variety anyway for just one pledge per religion/sect/cult. >.<
This is too confusing. But at least there've been a lot of interesting editorials lately. ;)

Interesting tidbit of trivia...
Originally, the Pledge DIDN'T include the phrase "under God" because the person who wrote it was an agnostic and a socialist (I think that was what was in the various texts I read about him *shrug*)
I'm kinda curious about the other pagan religions would place in its 'stead *ponder, ponder* (smell of burning rubber and the like.) Oh, well. *shrug*
Phyllis (aka Sidhe Uaine or Gaia Euphoria)

yup
It is interesting. :) "Under god" was added sometime around 1952 [I'm bad with dates, let's hope I have the right century] 'cos the US was fighting "godless Communism," according to some articles on the subject. *grin* It'd be interesting to see what every religion would put there, although probably some religions would have different ones amongst them.

You crack me up, Pavlos. I saw this on the news yesterday. I think it's completely rediculous. Did you see how a who bunch of congress-people went out on the front stairs of the Capitol and recited it? It was pretty funny.

They recited the Epicede to pall Indigence? At least honesty is returning to politics... ;)
