My first name is Edina. I am a female, and Hungarian. In Hungarian sources I found explanations for the origin and meaning: latin-german in origin, meaning: 1, female from the town Hedin, 2. animal fur, fur, 3. further form of the name Eda which is from the first parts of English compound names beginning with Ead-, in German Ot-.
There are also mentionings about a St. Edina, who belonged to the French royal family, but did not want to get married to the proposed person so escaped to Bayern, died in 1109.
I know about the town in US named Edina, its name comes from the name of Edinburgh in the 19th c.
