Re: NILS from Dionysius?
in reply to a message by Andy ;—)
Hallo Andy!
I could not find any connection between Dionysius and Nils in any Scandinavian name book.
The Latin form of Nikolaos (Nikolaus) was written Nikolás in Old Norse. The name forms changed like this:
Nikolás -> Niclis -> Nighils -> Niels (Danish) -> Nils (Swedish and Norwegian).
Scandinavian forms of Dionysius are Dinius / Dynius (old forms) and Dines / Dønnes (modern forms).
