Marianne...
My cousin's name is Marianne and she is 17. She goes by just Mary, which her parents started when she was little and it just infuriates me! LOL
Do you like Marianne or Mary better? I think they are two different names. Do you like either of them for a teenaged girl or younger?

I like Marianne better, even though I think I'm kind of nerdy for saying so. I don't think it's exactly a different name from Mary: it's just a combo with Mary; it's the same name as Mary Anne to me. I think nicknaming a Marianne 'Mary' is perfectly appropriate.
I like it on girls of any age... no trouble picturing Marianne on a baby, child, teen, adult, "old lady."

I like Mary better, but Marianne is fine. I see them as two different names as well. Actually, if I saw Mary-Anne and Marianne I would probably still see them as different names.
I don't like Mary at all, but Marianne is one of my favourite names. I've never met a Marianne that was born later than around 1970, most Mariannes where I live are about 50-60 y/o now, but I have no trouble picturing a little girl called Marianne.
I like Mary much better. And it's their child so they can call her whatever they want. It shouldn't infuriate you.
Mary.
