Some Old-Fashioned Nicknames I Adore
I've decided that I love some old-fashiond nn's from the 19th century. A lot of them are so cute! Actually, some of these aren't so old-fashioned, but a lot are. WDYT?
Millie - nn for Mildred, Millicent, or Camilla
Ellie - nn for Eleanor, Eloise, etc.
Nell - nn for Ellen, etc. (I LOVE this!)
Effie - nn for Euphemia, possibly others. (I'm really starting to like this)
Mamie - nn for Mary, Mae. (I'm cooling on this)
Maisie - nn for Margaret, Mae.
Minnie - nn for Mary, Wilhelmina, etc. (I wish this wasn't so associated with Minnie Mouse)
Fan / Fanny - nn for Frances. (Fanny isn't so usable, but what about Fan?)
Bridie - nn for Bride, Bridget. (Can anyone think of any other names Bridie could be a nn for? I adore it but I don't like Bridget or Bride too much)
Nan - nn for Anne, Nancy, etc.

Okay, Nell is now my new favorite. It's adorable!
Millie - very cute
Ellie - ehh
Nell - i love Nell too. Cool name.
Effie - one of my favorites
Mamie - yuck
Maisie - I used to loathe this name, but I babysat for a little girl named Maisie who was just a doll, so I couldn't help loving this name.
Minnie - I like Minnie too and I actually would never associate it with the mouse, but I suppose most people would. Similar, but different name that I love: Mimi. WDYTO that?
Fan / Fanny - ewww yuck yuck yuck
Bridie - NMSaa
Nan - nms

Nan - nms
Millie - nn Millicent (My ex boyfriends sister, we were cool, but their family was really weird)
Ellie - Cute
Nell - Its okay, certainly different nowadays
Effie - Meh
Mamie - Sounds like a grandma nn to me...kind of like nana
Maisie - Meh
Minnie - All I think of is the mouse
Fan / Fanny - Major jokes coming with Fanny (I've heard it used as slang for a child's bottom), and Fan is okay, not too many jokes, but its a word
Bridie - I keep saying Birdie - not a fan
Nan - Its okay, reminds me of Nana a little bit, but for Nancy, I like it

I like all of these, too, but only as nn's and not formal names.
Millie - I like Millicent, Camilla, Camille, and Amelia
Ellie - I like it for Eleanor or Eleanora, but it's a little too popular for me (even in the U.S.)
Nell - I like it as a nn for Helena or Penelope.
Effie - I'm not crazy about Euphemia, though Effie is awfully cute. Not sure what else it could be a nn for. Maybe the initials F.E.? :b
Mamie - Cute, though not a huge favorite.
Maisie - I adore this. It's my favorite nn for Margaret and also Mairead. This is the one I'd be most likely to use as a name on its own, though. It seems a little less nickname-y than the others to me for some reason (and I don't love Margaret or Mairead as much as I do Maisie).
Minnie - I also wish it wasn't so associated with Minnie Mouse. :( I like it best as a nn for Araminta.
Fan / Fanny - Fanny's cute but unusable, imo. :-/ I don't like Fan at all.
Bridie - Just ok. Brigid is the only other one I can think of.
Nan - Cute, but not a huge favorite.

I think Millie is very cute. I much prefer it as a nickname for Amelia, Amalia, Camilla, or Amelie instead of Mildred or Millicent.
Ellie is very cute but SO overdone.
Maisie is adorable as a nickname for Margaret.
I might like Minnie if I didn't immediately think of the mouse.
Fan is still unusable IMO.

Millie - Don't like it.
Ellie - Cute nn for Eleanor.
Nell - Also cute as a nn for Eleanor
Effie - Makes me cringe.
Mamie - Ugh! I hate this as a nn.
Maisie - Cute.
Minnie - Reminds me too much of a certain mouse.
Fan / Fanny - Makes me gag.
Bridie - Cute as a nn for Bride.
Nan - Okay for Anne / Anna but not something I would use as a nn.

I like Millie and Minnie; Effie's kind of cute. I think it's odd how unused Fanny and Nan are now a-days considering how well used they used to be, but I guess that's true of many old names.
How do you pronounce Bridie? Bri-dee or Bree-dee? For that matter, how do you prn. Bride? With a long I? Maybe it could work for Bidelia.

Millie - love! very cute
Ellie - cute, but so played out recently
Nell - I love this as well, but Nelly makes me think of the rapper. Nell(e), however, is adorable.
Effie - for some reason this always makes me think of the f-word?? I love Evie (prn. Eeevie or EV-ie) which sound fairly similar.
Mamie - sounds like Marmie (this spelling isn't correct), which is what the girls in the book Little Women called their mom, so to me it sounds like a nn that a child would call their mother.
Maisie - sounds like a trendy name to me.
Minnie - I know someone whom we call "Mini" because she is tiny, so I think of her. It is cute, but I think most people would think of Minnie Mouse.
Fan / Fanny - ehh, not really my favorite. I love Francie as a nn for Frances (A Tree Grows in Brooklyn)
Bridie - nrms, and I don't really know any other names it could be a nn for.
Nan - ok, but not my favorite.
Ellie - cute, but so played out recently
