Ceres and Demetria
I saw the name Demetria in a post and it got me thinking about a character in Piers Anthony's Xanth series. When I looked in the BtN database, I saw that (surprise, surprise) it comes from the Greek goddess Demeter. This reminded me of the Roman goddess Ceres, which is a name I have loved for awhile.
So...
WDYT of Demetria?
WDYT of Ceres?
How do you pronounce Ceres (or think it should be pronounced)?
Could either of these work on a little girl or am I being fanciful?
I don't think I'd ever really use them, but they're nice to talk about I guess.

I love Demetria. I even put it on my list. My husband vetoed it straight off, though. And I wouldn't want to have to fight the nickname Demi, which I dislike; I'd want to use Deitra or Metra or Metri, and that'd be an effort. But Demetria is just too long by itself.
Ceres would be pretty eccentric. I wouldn't consider it because it sounds too much like "series," and reminds me too much of "cereal."

WDYT of Demetria?
~A very strong but still feminine name. I like it.
WDYT of Ceres?
~Beautiful. I've always loved this name.
How do you pronounce Ceres (or think it should be pronounced)?
~SARE-iss (The iss is pronounced like the end of Ferris)
Could either of these work on a little girl or am I being fanciful?
~Yes, they could definitely work on a little girl.

I adore the name Demetria and think it would work brilliantly on a little girl. I am a bit biased because the name Dimitri has been passed down in my family and Demetria is the feminine form. I'd definitely use it.
Ceres is a nice idea, but I'm not sure I like it. You could make it work if you wanted. It isn't too fanciful, just not the best sound in my view (assuming in is pronounces SEER-es or SEHR-es).

I think Demetria is nice, but can only see it work on a Greek girll/woman. Otherwise it sounds very "New Age".
I love Ceres though. I pron. it SER-es,
I think Ceres wopuld work better, it's a little like Cerys / Carys / Serena / ... unusual, but nice and classy.
Oh, and I just thought, Demi could be a nn for Demetria, that would make it "usable".

I really like Demetria.
I don't particulary like Ceres, simply because I think of beers, since we have a beer brand called 'Ceres' in Denmark. So no can do for me at all.
But for how to pronounce the name above, I/we pronounce it as SEE-res here in DK.
I can't answer the last question, since I can't know being a Dane.

I am not in love with Demetria; it's okay. I think I would prefer Dimitria, though I realize it's an unconventional spelling; this spelling lends itself to the nn Dimi (dee-mee, equally stressed; not Demi!), which I like.
I agree with Bear about the pronunciation. I personally say SEHR-eez (though I think most Americans would say SEER-eez, like the word series), but I accept that it is probably most correct to use a hard C. I also agree with Bear that using the K sound would indeed make an unusual name that much harder to pronounce, and thus harder to accept.
Have you considered the name Cerelia (pr. seh-REEL-ee-ah or seh-REEL-yah)? Now that one I like.

I dislike Demetria, but I do love Demetra--it's not in the database, but there's a local artist by that name, and she's always struck me as quite nice and out there. Has a son named Aloysius; how cool is that? :D
Ceres reminds me of the anime Ayashi no Ceres. I have absolutely no idea what it's about, but it's what I think of. Then I think of CereCere / Sailor Ceres from Sailormoon. The sound (I say SARE-iss) doesn't do it for me at all, and neither does the appearance of the name.

I adore the anme Demetria. While I like Ceres in theory, it wouldn't be the easiest name to live with. But yes, Demetria and Ceres are a natural pair when placed side by side.
I would pronounce Ceres as "SEER-eez." But from looking at the details, if it is based on the root "ker," I suppose it should be "KEER-eez" or "KEHR-eez." But good luck getting people to pronounce it that way. It would make a difficult name even more difficult to live with.
Did I tell you how much I love the name Demetria? . . .
